Kherson is located in the south of the Ukraine bordering on the black sea and home to a major ship building industry. Kherson was founded in 1778 by a Grigori Aleksandrovich Potemkin, on the orders of Catherine the Great. The city was built on the site of a small fortress called Aleksandr-Shants. During the German occupation in World War 2 a small group of Ukrainian Underground Resistance fighters operated in Kherson as OUN(B). The group was eventually liquidated when the Germans arrested 8 members on August 12, 1942. Kherson is a developed industrial and agrarian part of south Ukraine. The regions coastline stretches for 120 km and is home to many sanatoriums, rest houses, children camps and boarding houses.
Compared to the rest of the country the land price per square meter is at the bottom end of the table.
