Kiev is not only the largest city of Ukraine, but also the capital and a major hub for industrial, scientific, educational and cultural aspects of living. The infrastructure is very well developed including the metro. Approximately 2.7 million people live in Kiev these days. In 1240 the Mongol invasion of Rus led by Batu Khan completely destroyed Kiev, this event that had a profound effect on the future of the city and the East Slavic civilization. Kiev was in those times reputed as one of the largest cities in the world, with a population exceeding one hundred thousand. The accident in Chernobyl only happened 100km north of Kiev but luckily the north winds blew the debris away from the city.
The city which is 1,500 years old is full of old charm history and beautiful buildings. Living in a city as big as Kiev is not much different than any other big city in Europe and Kiev is offering as little or as much entertainment as one is looking for. For those who are looking into buying real estate, this can easily be done with a few official documents. It is even possible to buy an investment property from overseas.
