Luhansk history dates back to 1795 when a British industrialist founded a metal factory. It gained official city status in 1882 and played an important role to the locomotive industry. The citys name was changed under different leaders a couple of times in past times but is now officially Luhansk since 1990. In September 2006 archaeologists encountered an ancient pyramidal structure which supposedly dates back as far as 300 years. The stone foundations are said to resemble the structure of Aztec and Mayan pyramids in South America. Luhansks main industries incorporate coal mining, natural gas, minerals for building, metal work and food processing.
As with other regions in the Ukraine property investment is attractive and yet caution has to remain. This is less a problem in the cities as they provide everything one wants for modern life.
